How to sew an apron for a dressmaker with your own hands

Craftswomen who do not sit in one place, plying between a table, a mannequin, a sewing machine and an ironing board, will be delighted with such a functional apron!


From the remnants of different fabrics, you can create a wonderful thing - a super-practical apron for tools and accessories! It has three pockets with several compartments, as well as thoughtful details such as a grommet for trimming ribbons or threads and a felt rectangle for needles and pins, fastened to the pocket with a button.

Apron size: 22 x 49 cm (without belt).


Cut out the details with your pocket, focusing on the specified size and your personal preferences.

You will need:

• rags of multi-colored fabrics for the base for pockets of approx. 25 x 60 cm each;
• rags of multi-colored fabrics for pockets in sizes;
• fabric for the belt;
• non-woven fabric measuring 25 x 60 cm;
• 3 buttons;
• 2 flaps of felt 1 mm thick and 4 x 8 cm in size;
• 1 eyelet (optional)

Cut



• carve 6 parts for three basics for pockets;
• carve 6 parts for three pockets: 15 x 15 cm for pocket A, 18 x 22 cm for pocket B, 11 x 17 cm for pocket C;
• belt: cut out two rectangular parts measuring 9 x 115 cm or one rectangular part measuring 20 x 115 cm.
Cut out the details with allowances of 1 cm to the seams and 2 cm to the hem, except for the belt.

Step 1

Details of the base for pockets and details of pockets duplicate non-woven.

Step 2

Fold base parts for pockets and pocket parts with their faces facing each other, chop and grind, leaving a small area open for turning out.

Step 3

Turn out the details of the base for pockets and the details of the pockets. Sew open areas manually with a blind stitch. Iron.

Step 4

Place the finished parts of the pockets on the appropriate basis for them. Pin with tailor pins and scribble in the edge. At the beginning and at the end of the seam, make fastening.

Step 5. Needle box

Tighten and stitch the end of the twill tape on one side. Then make a buttonhole on it. Fold the details of the needle bar made of felt together, insert a twill tape between them with the open end. Chip and grind the needle bar along the entire perimeter, stepping back from the edge about 1 cm.

Step 6

Sew a button to the pocket to which the needle bar will be attached.

On the other two pockets, lay lines according to the marking (see diagram).

Step 8. Belt

Cut out the details of the apron belt, fold them with their faces to each other and grind around the entire perimeter, leaving a small area open for turning out. Turn the belt to the front side, sew the open area manually with a blind seam. Iron the belt. The width of the belt in the finished form should not exceed 5 cm.

Step 9



On the finished belt with tailor's pins, prick the pockets so that the base of the pockets overlap each other by 1 cm and scribble.

Step 10




Sew buttons at the overlap to strengthen the connection.If desired, install a grommet on one of the pockets to hang ribbons, threads, etc. On a button, fasten a needle bar from felt.
