A fascinatingly colorful tablecloth will decorate any garden - with lush flower beds and a green lawn ... However, the color of the tablecloth can be made more relaxed - depending on the choice of fabrics ...
- fabrics: prepare at least 20 different fabrics and make sure they are of approximately the same quality and thickness;
- cotton non-woven: 275 x 245 cm;
- threads for hand stitches of dark red color;
- fabric for the underside.
SIZE in finished form: 275 x 245 cm.
Patchwork design
A quilted patchwork tablecloth is made up of strips of fabric cut along a transverse thread. Fold them in two rows so that they blend nicely with each other, not only the strips in the same row, but also both rows.
Important: make sure that when sewing the rows two identical fabrics do not fit together. The patchwork canvas is framed by a double (from two strips of different fabrics) border, and the quilted tablecloth is edged.
Tablecloth pattern
This figure shows the sequence of fabric strips.
CUT
For the inner border, cut many strips of 6.25 cm wide along the transverse thread and sew them together in two strips 217 cm long and two strips 257 cm long.
For the outer border, cut strips 10.25 cm wide and grind them into two strips 227 cm long and two strips 275 cm long.
For the center web, cut the strips along a transverse thread 110 cm wide. The width of the strips varies between 3.75 cm and 12.75 cm.
To trim the tablecloth you need 10 strips 6.4 cm wide.
For the underside it is necessary to grind two canvases of size. 100 x 245 cm, and then grind it to the canvas size. 78 x 245 cm.
Stitching
Stitch strips 6 mm wide. Fold the strips along long sections and make the first seam from right to left, the second - from left to right, etc. - in this way the finished fabric does not skew. When two pieces of fabric strips are ready (each should be size 247 x 109 cm), grind them along the middle seam. Finally, grind the strips of the inner border first to the sides, then to the upper and lower sections. At the end, also grind the stripes of the outer rim.
Assembly
Stitch the three parts for the underside into one web of size. 275 x 245 cm. Iron the upper piece of shreds and sweep on it first with non-woven fabric, and then the lower side. Now hand-stitch along parallel lines along the seams of the patchwork piece. Seam at intervals of approx. 10 cm and at a distance of approx. 6 mm from the seams. Trim the edges of the tablecloth evenly and surround them with stitched strips of fabric. Your unique tablecloth is ready!
